Deb and I did some wandering over the past 14 years: New Cumberland; Raleigh; Myrtle Beach and Hilton Head, SC; Summerfield and Hudson, FL; Portland; Bainbridge Island, WA; Orient Beach, St. Martin; Montpellier, France; and now Alicante, Spain. We sold homes, gave away furniture and cars, downsized and lived out of backpacks and suitcases. Currently we're in Alicante, Spain, where we plan to settle (for awhile). I poked this long-dormant blog awake so I could chronicle our attempts to learn to live in a foreign land. Let's see what happens.

Cary, NC

We're catching our breath in Cary, N.C., visiting with our sons and organizing the next week. We've scheduled a few nights on Pawley Island to revisit Brookgreen Garden, then six nights in a pair of Del Webb communities as we drift south.

But first, some praise for Cary.

Aside from two of our children, Cary has some major attractions for us. The Cary Tennis Center is amazing. It has 29 courts, including a stadium court. The landscaping is beautiful, the night-play lighting is generous and the staff are unfailingly helpful and friendly. Love it!

There are a pair of Whole Foods and an Earth Faire grocery store a short drive away. There are several excellent coffee roasters: Crema Coffee and Bean Traders in nearby Durham. We fell in love with La Farm Bakery, wowed visitors at Guglhupf  and visited Great Harvest Bread regularly for freshly ground red wheat.

So far, our favorite place to live.
